THINGS TO DO
in the area
Le Mas d’en Haut is located in the heart of the Creuse, an authentic and green area with lakes, forests, and hills, offering plenty of activities. We’re happy to provide our guests with the best tips for family-friendly outings, local walking and cycling routes, and information on local events. We’re also glad to help you reserve a table for your family or a romantic dinner for two at one of the many charming restaurants nearby.
Lakes and rivers
Our estate is just a stone’s throw from the Étang des Landes, perfect for running and walking, though swimming is not allowed as it’s a bird reserve. However, within a 30-minute drive, there are plenty of lakes and rivers where you can swim and paddle.

Brocantes
Paula’s little vintage shop, “Baisse ta Tête” (it’s very low and the name is a playful twist on “does it exist?”), is located beneath the Tower Shop. Additionally, there are several flea markets (vide-greniers) nearby every weekend, and during the week, you can enjoy browsing the many antique and vintage shops not far from us.

Excursions
Within a half-hour drive, there are plenty of excursions to enjoy. You can visit Les Pierres Jaumatres (a climbing park with huge Ice Age stones), Les Loups de Chabrière (a wolf sanctuary), La Ferme des Clautres (originally a petting farm, now more like a small zoo), the Labyrinthe (Europe’s largest maze), go water skiing or wakeboarding, try the Tyrolienne (zipline across the river), or explore Huskin’ Creuse (electric scooters or husky-pulled adventures through nature).
The Creuse is also perfect for spectacular hikes, cycling, and mountain biking trips. Bikes can be rented from us or in the village.
Bad Weather…
…we hardly ever experience at Le Mas. But if it happens to be too hot or if nature gets spoiled by that long-awaited rain shower, there are still plenty of fun things to do. You can visit several nearby castles, go to MuPop (a fantastic music museum), or the tapestry museum (it may sound old-fashioned, but it’s really fun for children, and the Aubusson tapestries are world-famous). And of course, you can head to the city for some French shopping.
